First things first; can we give a quick shoutout to Sonny? The main goal in life should be to find someone who looks at you like Sonny looked at that cereal.
Speaking of love, we're here to confess our complete and total love of cocoa butter. You probably already know, but cocoa butter is that girl. If you're anything like us, you grew up in a household that always had a bottle of cocoa butter lotion under the sink. You had other lotions sure, but that when that cocoa butter came out, you knew it was about to get serious.
You probably also remember that lotion being super thick, heavy, and a little greasy. Thats because coca butter isn't always the easiest to use. In it's natural form, it can be hard and a little difficult to melt onto your skin. But, like so many 90's cartoon characters, it may be rough on the outside but it's got a lot of amazing things happening inside. See what we did there? That was a callback!
What's so great about Cocoa Butter?
Cocoa Butter comes from the seeds of the cacao tree and it is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids. Your skin is low key obsessed with both of those things. Antioxidants help protect your skin from world stressors it might come into contact with like pollution or blue light. Fatty acids help your skin operate at it's best, reducing water loss and restoring elasticity. Cocoa butter is high in oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids, a great combination for a moisturizer because they're super nourishing for your skin. If that wasn't enough, it's also a natural anti-inflammatory making it the perfect winter time friend for dry, stressed out skin.
Cocoa butter has been used for thousands of years, first cultivated by the Mayans and becoming a major staple in their culture. Cocoa seeds, which contain cocoa butter, were prized for their flavor as well as their medicinal properties. Now cocoa butter is a key component of chocolate production and it's what gives milk chocolate its melt in your mouth texture. It's smooth, creamy, and has a luxurious feel which is one of the reasons we wanted to feature it so heavily in our first solid body product.
It also has a super distinctive smell that is, let's face, divisive. Cocoa butter is related to cocoa powder which of course becomes chocolate and there is a noticeable chocolate smell to cocoa butter that hasn't been deodorized.Honestly before we started working with cocoa butter, we were not huge fans of the smell. We famously have not put fragrance in our products for two reasons. One, we don't like interfering in other products meant for scent that you might be wearing. Two, we wanted to let the ingredients speak for themselves so we decided to let cocoa butter do just that. Our new Cozy Bar features a combination of deodorized and non-deodorized cocoa butter to keep the fragrance but lessen that impact. We also added a woodsy citrus scent to relax you and get you in the cozy zone.
So now that you know more about cocoa butter than you probably ever wanted to, give it a shot and make it part of your self care routine! Our Cozy Bar is a great intro product... just saying.
